Eligibility & Application
Q: Who is eligible to apply to live at Jessie My Love Foundation?
A: Jessie My Love Foundation is designed specifically for Black and Indigenous women in Canada. Women who are seeking healing, stability, and the opportunity to work on the land while building a new chapter are encouraged to apply. Families are welcome.
Q: Are trans women eligible to apply?
A: Yes. Our program welcomes all Black and Indigenous women, inclusive of trans women, and affirms the full spectrum of gender identity and expression within womanhood.
Q: Do I need to be a mother to apply?
A: Not at all. While we provide accommodations for mothers and their children, our program is open to all Black and Indigenous women, with or without children.
Q: Can people from outside Ontario apply?
A: Yes. While our first site is in Ontario, we welcome applications from across Canada, especially for future locations in other farm towns.
Q: What does the application process look like?
A: Applicants will complete an online application, participate in an interview, and be reviewed by a peer-led selection committee. Our process prioritizes transparency, respect, and emotional safety at every step.
Living at the Foundation
Q: How long can someone stay in the program?
A: Participants may stay for up to three years. During that time, they will live rent-free in one of our homes, work on the farm through our paid apprenticeship, and receive access to services designed to support long-term transition and independence.
Q: Are children welcome at Jessie My Love Foundation?
A: Absolutely. We provide on-site before and after school support, and open green space. Children are not seen as obstacles to success—they are part of the ecosystem we are nurturing.
Q: Can men live on the property or visit?
A: While our program is centered on the safety and restoration of women and families, respectful male family members (such as children, partners, or fathers) may visit or reside depending on housing arrangements. Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of all residents, and we have clear protocols in place to address any concerns.
Q: Can I leave the program early?
A: Yes. We understand that life is fluid. Participants are free to exit the program at any time. Our team will provide transition support if needed.
Work & Training
Q: What kind of work will I be doing on the farm?
A: Participants will take part in meaningful, land-based apprenticeships—such as cultivating crops, caring for animals, or helping produce artisan goods. The work is seasonal, collaborative, and tailored to match individual skills, interests, and physical ability. It is designed to be both sustaining and empowering—not extractive.
Q: Will I receive training or support if I’ve never worked on a farm before?
A: Yes. No prior experience is required. We offer hands-on training and mentorship to ensure participants feel confident and supported. You’ll learn at your own pace, surrounded by people who understand your journey.
Wellness & Support
Q: Is there support for mental health and emotional wellbeing?
A: Yes. Healing is part of the foundation. Participants have access to therapists, wellness practitioners, group sessions, and quiet spaces for rest and reflection. We believe tending the land goes hand in hand with tending the soul.
Q: What happens after the three-year program ends?
A: Participants receive free transitional support to help secure stable housing, paid apprenticeships, and education opportunities beyond our program. We walk with you as you step into your next chapter—not just as you enter.
Q: Is this a religious organization?
A: No. While we hold sacred space and honour spiritual traditions connected to land, ancestry, and care, Jessie My Love Foundation is not affiliated with any religion. All are welcome, regardless of spiritual beliefs.
Costs & Funding
Q: Are there costs to participate in the program?
A: Housing is rent-free. Childcare and access to fresh food are provided for a small and livable monthly service fee, both deducted directly from participant apprenticeship wages. All other core services—including mental health support, education, and transition services—are offered free of charge.
Q: How is this funded?
A: We’re funded through a combination of grants, private donations, and the sale of premium artisan products grown and crafted on our farms. Everything we do is rooted in ethical sustainability—no extractive models, ever.
Partnerships & Inquiries
Q: Is Jessie My Love Foundation open to partnerships or collaborations?
A: We are always open to aligned partners, funders, and organizations who respect our mission and want to build something lasting. Feel free to contact us directly. info@jessiemylovefoundation.com
